Shooting for 38 songs...

09/17 Chunk of Coal ~ Solid. Good hillbilly lead from Jimmy after first verse / Jojo solo after 'chorus'; a little unpolished but very well done for a 'comeback' song (B)
Four Cornered Room ~ (begin second set) Psychedelic intro, JB echo, Jimmy's guitar rising with vocal and Dave riffin' off it, too. Super hot, slow, evil groove. Feedback... Transitions quickly into Bust It Big (A)

09/18 WDYBT? "Y'all don't mind if we have a little jam session, do ya? / This is what we like to call Blood Spread Panic Kin" ~ DAS JB and Danny share vocals / noodly solo section / Danny really gets into second verse. (B-)
End Of The Show ~ (crowd noise / relaxed, easy intro) Danny creeps between lines with staggered delivery (first 2 verses) JB takes 3rd verse, share chorus, jb lead chorus.... show conclusion (A)

09/19 Good Morning Little School Girl ~ ("Good Evening Baltimore" - JB / Crowd / Bassline...) solid start, sped up groove 5 minutes in. JB late on lyrics to Radio Child transition. (B+)
Proving Ground ~ JB Whispering about school girl at beginning. First chorus wasn't wound tight but lead into a fantastic climax. Really heavy drums throughout and a beautiful, drawn out jam into drums. (B-)
Muffin Man
~ Downright Nasty DAS (couple with One Kind Favor, etc. in 3rd set) > Proving Ground "I don't know who I am, that don't mean nothing. Lawd, maybe the milk man just left my mama a muffin." -JB (A+)

09/23 The Take Out (2:21) Nicely done short little version. Jimmy and JB's tones are both spectacular. Let's start the show with this. (A)
> Porch Song ~ (10:37) Exceptional Audio. JB is singing down in Mikey's register, sweet! Crowd getting into it big time. Fantastic section of old-school Panic. Jimmy is pacing himself and soaring, rippin' along with DAS. When he finally gets to the ripping note frenzies they are just destroying it. Dave takes a rumbling solo, droppin' bombs- Jimmy joins in with a little call and answer. Stop-Go teases to finish the song- Pretty much falls right into the next number. (A+)
> Stop Go (11:18) I didn't want to add TOO MUCH of Tunes For Tots but this version is so strong that it simply can't be left off the mix. It has that oldschool energy and some monumental builds. Also some psychedelic echoing keys during JB's short little rap. Strong! Ends with some weirdness. Could add St. Louis > Driving > Breathing Slow from 10/24. The song actually ends. No segue into driving song. (A+)
Driving Song (7:17) Another great version. This one's cool coming into the first return and Jam Jimmy holds a wild freakin' note and Jojo responds, then JB comes in all crazy like for the return. Then they rip it a new one. This version has some great dynamics and the crowd is so tuned it. (A+)
Breathing Slow (4:46) Driving stops out of a held note before Breathing Slow begins. It sounds pretty damn good. Jimmy displays jazzy leads and this is very well done. Song ends on a repetitive DAS beat and Jojo's swirling notes into drums. (A)
Sleepy Monkey ~ ("Shall we proceed?" -JB) / solid start with good JH melody lines. After verse, octave slides whip into verse 2. More of the same following, jamming 3 minutes in. JB with an extended solo 5min mark, great build. Little loose swinging back to the jungle. "Carry me back to where the beginning was" (B+)
Last Dance "Woke up, it was a Sunday Morning"
Makes Sense To Me ~ (Springs abruptly out of Rock) Should pull a few solid less than 5 minute numbers from Tunes For Tots because they were tight as a fiddle! (4:30)

09/24
Pleas ~ Norwegian Wood tease by DAS into the now standard, Eminor jam intro to Pleas. (volume drop in AUD)
Airplane (crowd >) ~ Tight like a drum. 5 minute song, nicely paced and VERY hot JH tone and solo leading into Take Off, AKA 7 minutes of bomb heaving. Very interesting DAS lines with Jojo and Jimmy goin' off towards the 5 minute mark of the jam. Slows down near a hault. In comes smooth Avis teases. (A)
> Aunt Avis (bass line drops with cool drums) ~ JB acoustic with full sounding chorus. First of two this tour- will check #2 (10/09 Riverside). Less than 5 minutes, standard version. (B)
Fairies Wear Boots ~ (crowd > FWB). Low end on this recording. Jojo is just swingin' through the first verse. Fairly in your face as you would expect, some loosely structured playing but immense version... (A-)
> Impossible ~ Some mistakes but good version (B-)
North (crowd >) Song flows nicely through first 3 verses. "I will disappear" first Jimmy Solo struts perfectly with DAS and into technical breakdowns. Hot hot hot. Ease back into song with Jojo piano lines teasing something. Really solid keys and bass leading into organ. JB gettin into the action. All playing together for the build back into verse 4. "Baby it seems I haul my ass, lookin' all over for you!" "The sun it burns my thighs" "I will disappear. Little black hole, scurryin' disappear." Jimmy / DAS lead outro with huge builds (end set) (A)

09/25
Like A Hurricane ~ (08:20) Quick transition from Driving Song but without sound. Starts on Jimmy's best Neil licks. She's a keeper! First Jimmy solo after second chorus is euphoric. Jumps back into the melody and holding slowly before the 3rd verse... back into another jam though... a little loose on the direction here but it just doesn't matter. JB doin' Neil so well... "perfect feeling when time just slips away between us in our foggy trip." More well done melody. Transitions pretty hard into Chilly Water, we'll have to figure something out if we don't use this Chilly. (A)
Chilly Water ~ (4:18) Crowd sounds like fun during "long as there's water," shorter version because of the split. Could definitely be used, although Jimmy's guitar jumps up big time in the mix around the 2 minute mark. Not sure what that was all about! but I suppose it could be fixed. Funky, strange little transition into Pigeons.
Pigeons ~ (9:16) DAS downbeat headed into this Pigeons. A very different start to open the song up, but it works. They fall into a deep groove coming back into the funky part of the song around 6:30 and don't let up! Really great version with a nasty funk build into the rap. "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw, wake up child! Lord remember who you are! Lord who you gunn' be." (A) Sick transition >
Chilly Water ~ (5:53) Great tension release! "My horse is a bit parched, and my ass is chapped!" JB greets crowd and it's the end of the set. (A+)
Blight ~ (This Cruel Thing > Blight*) DAS vocal echo. 'This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody)' rap during 'Blight' - JB

Thought Sausage - (4:59) "There's a funny story that goes along with this song, but I will keep it to myself" - JB - JB is very funky sounding and load in the mix. A well done version (A-)

10/01/2010 1 X 1 - Show intro > 1X1, band sounds very together out of the gates and this is a quality AUD. The vocals are very crisp and lots of separation between instruments throughout the first solo. Quick start stop into bass line of... (A+)
> Weak Brain, Narrow Mind. This show is shaping up two songs in... Abrupt version at only 4 minutes long and absolutely breathless. Song ends and quickly into bongo drums. (A)
Help Me Somebody - Love Tractor floats into a slightly drawn out, happy go lucky take on Help Me Somebody (6 minutes). Could fit nicely into Ribs & Whiskey. Jojo's scream at the end is 20 seconds long!!! Holding the note out into Angels On High, almost a stop... let's put some Charlie Daniels in there... (A-)
Thought Sausage - (A+) As good as it gets.

10/04/2010 Last Dance - Killer version. Hot Jojo & Das out of the gates. Fast & Furious. After chorus 2; rippin Jojo solo followed by Jimmy. Aggressive "wooing", song winds down at 5 minutes. No, no no... (with echo) "It's time to make up a new holiday" great outro, awesome energy.... short pause (A+)
Sleepy Monkey ~ interluding jam (slightly reminiscent of Time Waits For No One) Jimmy less 'on the note' than 09/23 version on leading melody but still sounds poignant. Jojo more up front between 1st two verses. Jimmy playing beautifully behind vocals on 2nd verse. Monkey doesn't want to get tired. keep the beat going, swingin' smoothly into the jungle > jam > more jamming after lyrics wrap up. Nice DAS reggae bass lines, hammer ons, fun sounding band right about now. "Way on back, bugs and birds rest on down there... goin' down.... go down.... whales over water... rains over water.... landed softly on the shoreline below..." Finally, slow, dreamy outro... Song sort of ends and goes into a Cotton Was King jam > CWK. Gotta use a Sleepy Monkey on this release, will check 10/20 reno version. (A)
Papa's Home (8:55) Last song of the show. Sound is really great and is played in full. JB seems to be in full swing despite mixed reviews of the show. Coming into Jimmy's first soaring notes the band is booming. Jojo sounds very controlled and the band is snapping together after the 3rd verse. Soaring big time, WOW around 7 minutes they have lifted off! (A+)

10/05/2010
Worry ~ (7:42) Starts from thin air... Sounds so loud and boss-hog right out of the gates! Aggressive Panic, should be thrown in with some of the second set madness. The drums are particularly nasty, the boys are servin' up some high paced fury! The end is harder than metal, just an all out rocking song. Must have. Ends with some crowd noise(A+)
Postcard ~ (4:31) Crowd > Jimmy's got the crunch dialed in just right and JB is getting after it! "This town is nuts, this place is nuts, my kinda space... I don't never never never never wanna leave!" Jojo especially, but they all sound very on the mark and it's just a fantastic, ripping version. Bolt stop start ending into Let It Rock... could easily transition into crowd. Need to compare this with 10/29 though! (A+)
Let It Rock > Folsom Prison Blues > Let It Rock (starts on a downbeat and ends the set) (A)

10/06/2010 Introduction / "He doesn't really need an introduction but we'll give him one anyways... Mr. Charlie Daniels, everybody" (JB)
Ain't Life Grand - Charlie colors in the verses and feeds the crowd for ALG. Does it get any better? (4:33) (A+)
Jam (2:12) Lots of CD shredding, or whatever ya call it... leading into WDYBT? Gotta use the whole thing for the Fall Fire. >
Who Do You Belong To? - Slams into it with the crowd feelin' mighty good right about now. Fantastic AUD! Very loud ovation after that one. (4:52) (A+)
Fixin' To Die This is a must listen. (11:40) (A+)

10/08 Mercy - They get into the song nicely but the mood is aprehensive. Jimmy's first solo after the chorus is decent / Jojo comes in with some pretty work. The song slows down after the next chorus section, dark and eerie before picking up into that Other One Jam on a dime. DAS/Jimmy sound good together. About 7 minutes in they really start hitting it and playing off each other. Let's check out 10/17 and perhaps tack that onto the Maggot Brain (10:57) (B+)
Maggot Brain - Dave is screaming and does the spoken word intro!

10/09 Aunt Avis ~ (Starts with cool sounding xylophone licks) Again, lots of chorus. Drop into bass line / song is totally seamless. Jimmy playing over JBs first verse sounds excellent. First solo is crooning. Scratched up verses but it doesn't matter. Loud hammer ons and whaling out of last verse. Powerful breakout moment with builds and melting guitars. Dave takes a monster solo leading out of the jam over Jimmy's sustaining note. Touches on the song but just goes back into a jam, which is becoming louder. Boom, glad I checked into this one > Rebirtha (A+)

10/16 Party At Your Mama's House (11:07) Spectacular version with A+ Jamming. This one is MASSIVE. Comes out of Driving song with a held Jimmy note and ends with a stop into driving song. HUGE! (A+)

10/17 Jam (3:40) Funky DAS and drum jam but Jimmy isn't adding much to the groove with his play. Not sure if this is usable but it was a cool listen. (B+) >
Mercy (B-)
Proving Ground > Evolves out of Disco. When the improv section picks up steam it's going full blast. JH and Jojo crushing in unison. Drums are awesome, cacophony ensues and sound cuts out before. (5:41) (A)
Impossible (5:54) - Need to re-listen. Sounded pretty good but I spaced out. Awesome segue back into Proving however. We could stack Muffin Man into this part and then that ending of Proving Ground!
> Proving Ground (Just another well played minute of Proving Ground)

10/19 Ribs And Whiskey is risky and mighty aggressive. Not a huge fan of this song but I love this version. (That little additional part of the song that Jojo throws in works very well here) | Great trippy greeting / intro to this show as well. (A)

10/24/2010 Bastools And Dreamers w/ Thank You. (11:18) (A+)
St. Louis (6:16) Quick bolt stop and start into this one. They get into Dave's groove with a bunch of tact and it's a groovy little driving beat. Jimmy brings in some dissonance after laying low and comes into the groove with Jojo. Todd is sounding really together with some of his drum rolls, but the song is having trouble getting into the 'launch' until about 4 minutes. Then everyone gets on the same page and they're grooving hard. Unfortunately it was sloppy coming back into it. Todd stumbled and they just didn't hit it perfectly! What a shame... (B+)
Driving Song (7:03) Song starts with some Sunny resonance. Sounds pretty much perfect through the first verse and into the solo. Jimmy shows more restraint than usual and the song is just swinging. Holds the note out and gets a decent response from the crowd into the slow down. Song starts back up and they slay it! Into the next verse... JB's guitar sounds fabulous with a little chorus perhaps. Jimmy is hittin' the note but they limp into the next section. Otherwise a great version! (A-)
Breathing Slow (4:41) Had a lot of trouble getting into this one properly. Jimmy brings in some cool octave slides and nice licks but not sure if we should use this just based on the introduction. Tunes for Tots was superior. (B)

10/29 Saint Ex ~ (segue from Bust It Big) Song is becoming huge. Very tight version with some psychedelic sampling?. Very heavy into the outro, nice contrast. Could be a good one from the new album.
> Rebirtha (stop / start transition) ??? Somewhat mellow in comparison to 10/09 throughout the song (on tape). A cool little Fixin' To Die jam comes out of Rebirtha, before another jam picks up. They're playin' with the crowd at this point. Slap bass / Jojo funk. (B+)
> Postcard (stop /start transition) YES! That's the one. Under 5 minutes of killer rock. (A+)
Red Beans* (Ivan Neville introduction) Very well done. Killer playing, Johnny-B-Goode guitar licks, awesome pace and just a fun freakin' song (esp. for NOLA) > Jam* (A+)

10/30 Action Man with reprise would be a good finish of the 3rd set / beginning of the encore. (A)

10/31 Inagoddadavida Jam > (2:44) goes into Worry. Tight little jam, should use if we can. The Big Wooly beforehand was good as well. "So we can burn New Orleans Down..."
Diner is really jammed out, drags on a bit however (16:00). Nice 'Sewing Machine' rap by JB after the James Bond theme from Jojo. (B+)
Lola (06:00) This was the most fun portion of Nolaween. Gotta use it. (A)
