Prose:

  • 15 sold out shows is an acknowledgement of their drawing power from the East to Colorado, and well traveling followers headed to Mexico.
  • Adding a new, stripped down layer to their wall of sound, while Panic maintains a ubiquitous presence
  • They find themselves on holiday from the electric standards they've been forging for over 25 years.
  • Without their wall of sound, Widespread Panic takes an iconoclastic leap of faith, and when the curtain rang down on the tour, it's clear that the music remains as intriguing and moving as ever. The 15 show and sold out Winter Tour of 2012 that, in future years, will remain ... Breakouts...
  • The music seems to motor the eye-catching light show staged by Lighting Director Paul Hoffman. Expanses of warm, purple drapes, and lengths of Christmas lights hung in semi-circles behind the band, enrich the stage while giving the scene a changeable sense of atmosphere.
  • Katherine's edit: The music seems to mirror the eye-catching light show, staged by Lighting Director, Paul Hoffman, while warm purple curtains along with cascading Christmas lights, set the mood for a more intimate atmosphere.
  • Steering away from the blueprint during 'Jack', scratching 'Papa's Home', 'Vacation', and 'Across The Universe' from the setlist.
  • An acoustic sextet
  • traveling the road between
  • 'Mercy' provides the point of departure for a free flowing jam
  • By far the overwhelming influence on 'Song' is 'person/song'
  • paying tribute to the vintage John Lennon classic 'Across The Universe'
  • A sumptuously beautiful rendition of 'Song'
  • A string backdrop
  • Jimmy's unrestrained virtuosity on this version is a real draw
  • For those concerned about the pace of the first set, Jojo injects a dose of rock and roll, cranking out (song title) on the upright piano.
  • While 'Visiting Day' has been a staple since its release on 'Dirty Side Down', tonight's presentation as a hybrid of the old temp and new lyrics, makes it a bustout in its own right.
  • This rendition of 'Big Wooly Mammoth' faintly recalls the original and slower arrangement.
  • JB must find a new voice this evening, keeping things in the lower register and supplementing stretched out instrumentals to spare his weathered voice, soothed by honey tea.
  • 'Song > Song > Song', are among their finest.
  • An old fashioned rap during 'Tall Boy'
  • While their arrangements match the intensity, they don't specifically evoke the world of 'Sit And Ski'.
  • Impassioned singing
  • A heartfelt effort
  • A sentimental journey
  • A rustic, stripped down rendition of 'Chilly Water'
  • A 48 minute production of standards and acoustic Panic noeveau.
  • it's decidedly mixed bag, a very long show (3 hours) with a brilliant songlist that accentuates the acres of (adjective) that surround it.
  • the rocking songs that translate effortlessly into the universal language of wood tour.
  • reduces the crowd to helpless howling
  • endlessly imaginative simplicity
  • is wondrous to behold

  • Plenty of excitement is in the Silver Spring air, and there are a lot of questions to be answered tonight! How will the ticketless ticket system work, will the crowd be respectful and stay quite during the show, will they pull from a limited catalog and will the so-called "3 show rule" in regards to the rotation be in effect? Will there be new breakouts and bustouts, will the old songs be overhauled and the jamming cut short, what will the stage setup be and what kind of instruments will they have in tow? Enough questions, let's divulge some answers about the first ever fully acoustic Wood Tour!
  • The drum sets are walled in glass, 3 chairs are stage front, the noteeater is centered on a backdrop that's draped and decorated with what looks like Christmas lights hanging in semi circles. JB's Gibson guitar that he's played at JB & Friends is out on stage, https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/396498_3170759476001_1475920817_33118634_2101277865_n.jpg
  • 7th This Part Of Town opener fits the acoustic mold, and the second song of the tour comes as a surprise: 'Worry'
  • A few more suitable songs come out, Fishing gets the uptempto treatment, and Free Somehow come off the shelf after over 200 shows
  • The band begins to gel during the St. Louis jam.
  • You can hear the Front Of House engineer adjusting the guitars, bringing up the vocals, getting a feel for the room and the dials set for this highly anticipated event!
  • 'Genesis' features what must have been the first jazz standard groove in this band's history, and the return is absolutely sublime!
  • Whether you’re on Couch Tour or inside the venue tonight, provided by Dr. FOB and Crossthreaded
  • They’re just getting warmed up…
  • State of the Union address is all wrapped up at the end of setbreak and
  • Three consecutive nods to Vic, Degenerate debuted on the Fall Tour closer, returned for the Acoustic set at NYE, and here we are again. That’s, count them, three consecutive nods to Vic! And with the opening run it looks like they’re paying homage to Athens.(must really be feeling it!)
  • Schools switches bass and opts for a slender, sexy black 4-string. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/401999_2890617338966_1066208975_2970309_945670001_n.jpg
  • Always sounds like they’re going to roll into ‘Vacation’ out of ‘Travelin’ Man’, but they’re holding onto that one and letting ‘Saint Ex’ fly tonight, and a new jam is born out of the standard backend outro, and a very successful one at that!
  • Driving Song almost comes to a complete hault with a slow bubbly jam that boils into a groove.
  • The statement song of the night had to be None Of Us Are Free (nod to the POS)
  • Jojo absolutely cuts loose on the upright piano during 'Walkin'
  • Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’ House Music
  •
JBisms
  • ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you’ after-Worry
  • ‘Yay, Todd’ after-Cinic Cynic

  • 'I'm only goin' where the stars are pointed. I just cleaned off my feet here. Oh, I'm gonna shine it up nice now' during-Walkin' (For Your Love)
  • 'Alright. Thank you ladies and gentlemen. See some of you tomorrow night!' after-Walkin' (For Your Love
 BTD’s Notes:
  • JB lets out a giggle and Jojo gives the lead in to ‘This Part Of Town’. Instead of Jimmy’s volume swells which we’ve all grown accustomed to, what we get are jazzy, acoustic runs. As the soundman Dros makes adjustments, Jojo is a little too low in the mix, Schools and Todd’s kick drum a little overbearing.
  • While ‘Worry’ has been one of JB’s solo staples since the beginning, it comes as a surprise in the second slot! An excellent rendition, with Jojo’s work filling in, extra trippy.
  • The singalong begins with ‘Wondering’, and would last throughout most of the night, as the concertgoers for this rare event join with conviviality.
  • As hip as ever, Genesis features a splendid section of improve where the band locks in, to the rhythm of a swinging jazz standard.

BTD's Notes:

  • The Microphones are flying high tonight in the venue to passing over the heads of a chatty crowd, Even the band is particularly talkative and interactive tonight, and fortunately the volume is MUCH LOUDER! So, the band has loosened up and so has the venue... they're now allowing you to grab more than one drink at a time!
  • After JB rambles something about Joel listening to Spice Girls in the headphones, the singalongs lead off, JB on the mandolin signals Ain’t Life Grand, followed by Blue Indian.
  • Todd’s song that he wrote with BarbaraQue called ‘Coach’ is up next.
  • The second surprise choice for an acoustic rendition is 'Ride Me High', and it features some killer Schools runs, he really getting into it.
  • C. Brown

  • Joel brings out the Resonator guitar for a suite of slide songs in 'Party At Your Mama’s House' and ‘Stop Breakin’ Down Blues’
  • Jack “called up to kick for the Superbowl team”. "The guitar tech came out and changed the dobro, DAS grabbed him and explained(speculation) that there was room on the setlist for another song. That was then relayed to JB who then, kind oif, surprised shrugged and said "good to know", DAS then said "calling an audible" > Jack"
  • Everyone from Aspen to Atlanta wants the next number, but it looks like Silver Spring will be the place for LGTSOTR tonight.

  • No bent notes tonight. Afterwords “Chairs are easy to dance in”
  • Don’t Be Denied, another “Go Jojo” JB belts out.
  • Monumental Airplane jam! with a bunch of Wows and Woahs cause it rolls on into The BALLAD OF JOHN AND YOKO
  • You gotta love how they opted not to do the Fast Mercy that they'd done on acoustic before, but then dropped right into that funk infused hillbilly Imitation. It was a super slow Mercy in fact, so two quasi-new interpretations. Sweet. :)
  • Trouble, funny little thing happens when someone yells out WIDESPREAD MOTHERFUCKIN PANIC'
  • Are you Ready For The Country? Jojo's turn to call on a guitar solo-"Go, Jimmy, go!"

* with Col. Bruce Hampton on vocals
** JB on six string banjo

[Slow 'Visiting Day']

BTDs Notes:

  • "That is the only way I can describe the wood tour sound. Its stripped down wonderfulness. Every note has a purpose. Where the hell did Jojo come from last night?? That man was on fire. I'm pretty sure I saw smoke coming from his keys during blackout. I loved the acoustic takes on our favorite songs. Never thought I would see a dirty visiting day like that. It was a mix of new lyrics and old tempo with an acoustic twist. I am going to say this without a doubt that, that pickin' up the pieces and Diner were the best ones I have ever seen. I say this knowing that it may not be the best one you have ever seen, but as someone who never saw Mikey I felt like this version of panic is the closest I'll ever get. It was a damn good music all around. Looking forward to another win for the home team tonight!"
  • Open with a song they botched pretty good the last time they played in Atlanta, and a rare opener-'Heaven', and went on to play the other gaffe, 'Big Wooly Mammoth'!
  • No huge transitions, so they keep the fans guessing all night long!
  • The second set opens with a Vic Chesnutt cover, and then a Bloodkin song.
  • One of the many highlights to surely come on the weekend is the return of that old style of 'Visiting Day', played into Use Me!
  • Absolute acoustic destruction of Diner, with a hefty JB rap about the people coming and going from the Diner throughout the years, while Jojo pumps that organ. Some rippin' leads into Ribs.
  • Ribs and Whiskey is rowdy, you can hear the energy in that place!
  • Old Style Big Wooly Mammoth. "Somebody throw me a fire so we can burn Atlanta down" -Jojo
  • Nobody's loss with the debut of JB's new 6 string Banjo
  • "And again the audience chorus, another full member of the band. I don’t want to say that it’s just a sing along…it was so much more than that. As if the years, the music, and the smiles of the fans feeling as if they’re contributing…it’s spine tingling at times." -Josh Stack

You know, I really, really, really just miss your smile. Every time I come through this town, Miss Lee, you know. You know, I watch people come in this place and go back out. Some of them just look different. I seen, I seen a man come 'round, he was ten years younger, and his wife was lookin' at him. Oh, nice life! I seen, I seen little children pipe down, eww, just lookin' at your smile. I seen dogs lickin' kitty cats hangin' in the light of Miss Lee. Hangin' in the lights. Aww, baskin' in the light. • Absolutely surreal and beautiful Vacation jam.
  • Fierce Bluegrass version of Imitation Leather Shoes
  • Monumental Jojo solo during Me And The Devil Blues!
  • After a beautiful, sing a long City Of Dreams, they bust into a big jam that solidified into it's own thing when Jimmy calls on an ascending and descending lick that Schools and then Jojo all jump into for a spell (8:51~), before falling into free form jamming, with more STRONG handed Jojo leads.
  • House lights go up after Breathing Slow and the crowd gives a relentless ovation. The band must wait for us to shut up to continue!
  • JB mutters about a little kitten and they do the original intro to No Sugar Tonight, and the little transition between it and New Mother Nature. The crowd is ripping and roaring after such a close to the second set!

BTD's notes:

  • Widespread Panic Tweet: WP just tweeted- To all in our presents. Please be considerate and keep the chatter and noise to a minimum during the show.
  • Wood Tour: Raw Panic. More than half of tonight's setlist (Blight, Chilly Water, This Cruel Thing, Counting Train Cars, End Of The Show, Goin' Out West, Hatfield, Help Me Somebody, Hope In A Hopeless World, It Aint No Use, Papa's Home, Pleas) haven't been played on this acoustic tour, and 219 shows have passed since the last 'Counting Train Cars'.
  • A booming Papa's Home opens the third night at the Tabernacle, proving how tight they've become over the past four nights, navigating the improvisational stretches with purpose and ease. The acoustic unit is flexing on this 12 minute
  • Wondering is super high energy and JB is flying off the cuff throughout.
  • A first slow, and then double time, swinging rendition of Hope In A Hopeless World is warmly received by the crowd, and it sets up for the second biggest surprise of the weekend: the return of 'Counting Train Cars'.
  • JB raps amazing grace over the chorus of a straight rowdy Help Me Somebody, and they fall into a funky little jam (check it out again) and finish it off in classic fashion.
  • What happens next is the most emotional, incredible sit in of the past decade. (link to the video), about the story. Colin vocalizes on the first and third verses, pouring his heart into the song.
  • Sunny leads into the next song with talking drum, (NOT ROCK!), and settles into the congas, signaling Hatfield!
  • Colin Vereen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iz507p5EY-k "I Had an interesting time growing up; My father, Garrie Vereen, worked for the band Widespread Panic for pretty much my entire life. I started going to shows with my friends on my own in 2001 and that's when this song started to become very special to me... When the band would bust it out I would stop whatever I was doing and go backstage to sit with my father just to let him know I wasn't getting into too much trouble.
Garrie tragically left us earlier this year and it inspired me to learn to play and sing this song in his honor.
So here it is, me pouring out my heart for my pops! RIP Garo.. "
  • JB Fist bump after Trouble.
  • The first acoustic Hatfield...
  •  Climb To Safety strong harmonium pumping instead of the organ leads.
  • Pleas opens the second set with an extension of the jam that came along when Jimmy arrived.
  • It Ain't No Use falls into a really tasty groove with Jojo leading the way on the upright before the wanna go wanna stay, and we're only half way through the song!
  • Damn, that Blue Indian with John Keane on pedal steel will raise the hair on your neck! The crowd is fired up and the song is pristine. (CHECK HERE TO SEE IF THE CROWD IS BOOING, GLOWSTICK INCIDENT WITH JB GETTING HIT?)
  • Debut of Carmelita with Todd Nance sings (his most singy-song every?) and JK on Pedal Steel, a song that Todd's band Barbara Cue has sung in the past. Todd Sings Carmelita w/ Barbara Cue
  • Another This Cruel Thing for the state of Georgia, and it features those chilling backup vocals.
  • A big ovation after Jack, largely thanks to a ripping piano solo that JB acknowleged with the lyrics- "Wizard's in the corner, oh ticklin' the ivories between his knees"
  • Schools gets some love after his solo in a Chilly Water that caught everyone by surprise, and then there's a little hot potato jam between he and Jojo on the back half before the venus light rises. Jimmy and JB even do some vocal/guitar call and response!
  • A grizzly goin' out west, a lot of call and response vocals between Dave and JB, the music dies down and then picks back up for one last go 'round.
  • (CHECK GOW JAM FOR INTERSTELLAR OVERDRIVE)
  • Jojo on the Toy Piano
  • (Schroeder on Toy Piano, Ladies and gentlemen. You know Lucy's got a crush on you don't ya?' -Schools after C. Brown)

Oh, little... we're gettin' a little old this year for cops and robbers. Playin' calm... Rad Rappin' Joe and Ice Station Zebra. 12 O'clock High! Oh, smellin' good comin' through the window. And some sounds, too. We went in the house, Hatfield's mama was sittin' there playin' on her 3-string banjo. Playin' about an eleven and a half bar blues. Hoo, sit back! Aww, soak it in. That light around Miss Hatfield got bigger, and big, and big. Now Charlie, he had... he had the touch. Aww, you know the kid, he had a little light around all the time. Had a little light around his dog, too. So it wasn't no suprise that one day, ole Charlie... he invented rain. Oh yeah it was dry. That man, he was messin' with chemicals... thoughts and ideas. Mixin' thoughts with the chemicals. Aw, lawd he made it, make rain! All rain down. In the lakes and rivers. All the fishes swimmin' again. And in our eyes were tears... oh, Charlie. BTD's Notes:

  • The band decides to take a small "vacation" before their big vacation on the horizon, taking the show on down to Mexico in the middle of their 'Wood Tour'. Plugging shit in and letting it rock!
Rain blows over just in time for the 9:30pm showtime, and the boys are plugged in and shooting sparks out of the gates for a She Caught The Katy opener!
  • A huge Cars tease led by Jojo and Schools
  • Garrie shout out during Gimme
  • Last night's soundcheck, Bowlegged Woman (Video)
  • 30MPH winds tonight.
  • Last 4 night run was at The Fillmore in Denver in 2005.
  • 2,000 in attendance, bottomless drink runners all night, kicking sand and getting down by the beach!
  • Coming off the first ever acoustic tour, there's a newness about the electric sound for all parties. As you can imagine, plugging in for the first time since NYE will emit some sparks.
  • Been raining for over two hours, but mother natures shows mercy, letting up before showtime... 9:30pm rolls around... it's about that time! Cloud9's director of artist relations, Annabel Lukins provides a toast and gives the 'Best Day Ever' flag a shout out before the week's festivities are underway; She Caught The Katy opens in fairly straightforward fashion, along with a quick From The Cradle.
  • 'Pigeons' rolls out of the latter, and the energy is palpable! Schools leads the first jam, then Jimmy steps up before the rap and let's it rip! The song has a fresh feel tonight, Schools is throwing out some new basslines, and after a roar from JB, he's ready to deliver an echoed, billowing invitation to fly tonight "another wrinkle in the sand"!
  • 'Cotton Was King' has found itself into the 4th slot of the song list once again!
  • The fiesta continues with 'Party At Your Mama's House', and the final 3 minutes of Party really picks up the pace-musical tension catches fire.
  • The popular pairing of 'PAYMH' > Ribs (Check for Down On The Farm Tease) gets a steamy funk jam during the back half of ribs, delivered heavier and harder than usual.
  • Greta: They go into the funky, slow it down and then really slam it on when Jimmy stomps on the delay pedal. Absolutely ripping it up in the last 60 seconds of the song, with the crowd going wild! The musical conversation has evolved from acoustic to electrified! What sounds a little like a North jam eventually becomes 'You Got Yours'!
  • You Got Yours gets the full 'Cars' jam with Jojo and Schools playing with it for 30 seconds.
  • Coming back from 'Mini Drums' into 'Fishwater', Dave Schools is absolutely pummeling his 6-string, JB let's out a howl, a couple boats are anchored off shore while the crowd gets down,. They're dancing in the surf, man!
  • The 3rd Space Wrangler in the past 6 shows.
  • "Welcome to the 3rd Quarter" ~JB before 2nd set, which is about to be a total heatwave, Jojo hints off 'Bust It Big', and the music takes a funky plunge into the unknown. The "Mexico" lyric has never run louder, and before the rosemary's baby line, they are absolutely fucking ripping. The tension continues to bust at the seems, with notes flying around the sky and swirling up and away into...
  • 'Love Tractor!'. What an effortless, incredible transition!
  • The extended 'Saint Ex' ending jam that started on Wood Tour is back again, and absolutely beautiful.
  • Holy shit, Schools is absolutely rumbling throughout the Surprise jam, several crescendos, the band following eachother's lead magnificently. Navigating musical peaks and valleys. Schools lays down a bass jam, then after a quick mini drums with the band out on stage.
  • LGTSOTR plenty of echo, JB mixin' up the lyrics.
  • Wrangler, good enough ending jam, coming into a short and really animated Walkin'.
  • Vampire blues IS high octane, JB slams it hard and takes a nice guitar solo.
  • Schools signals the MSTM and
  • Gimme has Jojo echoing over the night's sky, and JB throwing out a heartfelt tribute to Garrie Vereen... "Gimme a kiss
  • Machine > Barstools. Barstools has some nasty octave slides before the rap.
  • Jungle Boogie (Post Show House Music)

Notes: SOLD OUT | www.panicenlaplaya.com  | Daily Schedule | Showtime: 9:30pm CST (10:30pm EST) | Pre-order Download/CD of the 2/01 Show | Seating Capacity: 2,000

BTD's Notes:

  • 'Rock' contains some more colorful JB singin' about the ocean.
  • After rock, Jojo adds some humor into the set by going into the breakneck Tall Boy they've been playing on Wood Tour for a couple bars. The band laughs it off and
  • They fall into a nice little groove coming out of Tall Boy that lends well to the island beat that's been happening this week. Jojo showcasing some of his new toys and teasing 'Riders On The Storm'
  • The band is playing as a unit tonight, Jimmy's doing a wonderful job kipping his fills in the pocket during 'Sharon',
  • Jimmy steps on the delay pedal and JB's voice slips into an echo, making Tortured Artist an even more colorful song.
  • Spoonful > Sleepy Monkey > Kinky Reggae > Sleepy Monkey. Wow!
  • Where they usually enter the reggae jam of Stop Go, Jimmy plays the 'Fire On The Mountain' lick
  • 7 Shows is too long to go without a Disco... but man does it come strong out of the gates! The final Herring solo is absolutely soaring, fucking fire. (delay too!)
  • Blackout Blues: "Passed out on the beach this morning"
  • More Jimmy Herring delay! Fucking Diner! After the rap, Schools steps up with his funky filters and Jojo steps on the gas, breakin' off something proper!
  • Junior steers the music into a darker direction, Good People... And Up All Night continues to be a highlight, some of the most beautiful playing of the weekend occurs here, during that new furious jam. It comes slinking into All Time Low, with Jojo singing in the lower register. This version is particularly rocking', with Jimmy's guitar work shining brightly, and a very well done breakdown at the end of the song with some wonderful interplay between the whole band. A favorite version of mine! They finish it off with a little of a reggae jam with that loud drum slap that accentuated the Kinky Reggae before a quick drum interlude, and the ambient echo slap from the bottom end, signaling 'Proving Ground'.
  • There's another feral scream from JB going into the first jam of the song. Out of the controlled chaos comes the booming drums and haunted blast into a distorted and charged Mr. Soul.
  • Bears Gone Fishin' and Red Hot Mama both have respective breakdowns and the latter has a cerebral jam between Jojo, Dave and Jimmy. They all lock into the same riff for a few bars and then Schools takes it away. Building it up and launching back into the final chorus!
  • The always tremendous Protein Drink > Sewing Machine
  • The encore 'Chainsaw City' somewhat standard, and then some very clean ryhthm playing during 'Slippin' Into Darkness'. Jimmy's tone is super clean and it's just working so well right here. Steve Lopez shaking things up.

JBisms:

  • 'Alright, good evening once again' before-Rock
  • 'Bird gonna make it home before his lips get dry' during-Rock
  • 'Goes my arms. There go my leg. There go my belly babe. I'm still gonna eat you up. 'Cause all you in this world will come back in the other. Rock on my belly lyin' on the bottom of my pool. Down there in the ocean ride on the bottom of that pool!' during-Rock
  • '[Laughter] ya got me' after-Tall Boy (tease)
  • 'That girl had some moves, gave everybody a thrill. That wet thing I felt, I hope it was a drink that spilled. Then she turned around, smiled a whole smile for the whole world to see.  I swear with her mind she looked right at me' during-Sharon
  • 'It's just like the man said in the speech from the start, you don't need no money, no you don't need no money at all... cause Sharon is all inclusive. Lawd, a little whiskey and cigarettes and no sleep and I walk the streets alone. I swear sometimes I can hear the main street moan' during-Sharon
  • 'Lawd just a spoonful of your precious love to satisfy my needs' during-Spoonful
  • 'Jimmy's soul in peace. Bobby's soul's in peace. ? show them peace. Kinky peace. Oh, is the king's peace. Oh, float, float on in king's peace' after-Kinky Reggae
  • 'Used to like the highway' during-Stop Go
  • 'Lord, it's not your first time is it boy? Oh no, I seen your kind before' during-Rebirtha
  • 'I said, lawd no I can't look in your eyes' during-Rebirtha
  • 'Right back' after-Blackout Blues
  • 'She opened up the door early just to help a poor soul out. Ah, she said. Come on in, I hadn't seen you around these parts for three, four months now. I know Miss Lee. I swear... a world traveler. That's what happens. Been so many places in this mind. So many places in your thoughts. Oh, Miss Lee sometimes I think you been dreamin'. Sometimes I just gotta come back here. Just baskin' in the illusion of our selves in this, in your light. In your smile. Oh, look at her. Hangin' in the light. Oh, Miss Lee. Aww, dang... after all the ordinary memories of the world' during-Diner
  • 'You kept me out all night. Up all night. Up all night. Up all night, all night long' during-Up All Night

Notes: SOLD OUT | www.panicenlaplaya.com  | Daily Schedule | Showtime: 9:30pm CST (10:30pm EST) | Pre-order Download/CD of the 2/02 Show | Seating Capacity: 2,000

BTD's Notes:

  • The Flash Mob never materializes, and flyers litter the beach!
  • First electric version of the John Lennon cover introduced on Wood Tour-The Ballad of John And Yoko. Jimmy plays this super catchy tune to perfection, with slinky licks that fit so well, and JB delivers as always!
  • After a sweet opener, Little Kin follows up with that pleasantly sour, irking Houser lick. The band is starting to open up, Jimmy is using some tasteful delay and the music begins to take flight.
  • A bubbly bassline develops and we slip into more rock n roll with Radio Child.
  • [Pardon us while we towel off] -Schools before Impossible
  • There's some moisture on the stage and a little crackling coming from the stage during the beginning of what will be a very long Impossible.
  • Visiting Day gets the ole slow treatment once again, and a new opening riff from Jojo. A more haunting, "we're ready to do it slow again" twist! So this is the traditional version, but with the new lyrics... Jojo lays down a chilling organ solo before the final verse.
  • Knockin' tonight has a nice little breakdown where everything but the drums goes down and the chatter begins. The song winds down along with the first set... Just 3 more to go!
  • The second set opening 'One Arm Steve' has a few measures of grizzly, Black Sabbath style grooves, but doesn't get stretched out like it usually does.
  • 'Worry' has a little bit of a different feel, with lots of bass guitar slides and low notes before the second verse.
  • JB sings one song original in Spanish, so as you can imagine, 'Casa Del Grillo' is a well received rarity south of the border!
  • After a short pause, 'St. Louis' comes around... > Tie Your Shoes (5 minutes) and a ten minute 'Ride Me High' and 8 minute jam that is absolutely incredible. Jojo's bubbly lines are echoing and morphing from stage left to stage right, Jimmy's runs sliding between each of his, and Schools funk popping in all the right places. Jojo takes the first lead, then Schools and Jimmy share the second in unison, and then the three-way handoff begins! There's that lick that I loved from the other night's All Time Low @ the 10minute mark of Airplane.
  • After a monumental Airplane jam, Schools leads off a tribal jam and the rest of the band picks up on it before it goes darker and winds up in 'Goin' Out West' territory.
  • After a quick drums, Jojo leads a 'Tequila' jam as 'Tie Your Shoes' crosses the finish line! LOL
  • 'Aww, grammy said, I hear you playin' Alabamy Bound. I said, no, no, no, mama I was playin' Heaven Bound. She said, Lord don't lie to me boy, I'll make you eat the Vaseline' during-Stop Breakin' Down Blues
  • 'Goodnight ladies and gentlemen. Thank you very much!' after-Bowlegged Woman
  • 'We Want The Funk' jam during Bowlegged Woman'

JBisms:

  • 'Hello' before-The Ballad Of John And Yoko
  • 'Aww, the caravan is on it's way. I hear the merry gypsy play. Aw, another sweet apple rhythm. Take it take it I don't even know. Radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio' during-Radio Child
  • 'And the wizard's in the corner. Oh, catchin' peanuts between his teeth. And the dog he's long and twitchin', twitchin'. One good dog right there, filled with good ole dog dreams' during-Jack
  • 'This stuff here bust your brain out baby. Lawd, might make you high' during-Stop Breakin' Down Blues'
  • 'Todd's gonna croon one for us!' before-Down
  • 'It's hard to imagine that nothing at all could be so exciting... Ohhhh, could it?!' during-Heaven
  • 'Taste better than a T-bone steak a little sausage on the side' during-Bowlegged Woman

BTD's Notes:
  •  After a 40 minute rain delay.
  • Jimmy is getting that far out reverb, delay sound again during the 'Aint Life Grand' opener, and it shuffles into a song which has been a popular follower since 2007; 'Who Do You Belong To?'.
  • Climb To Safety is long and drawn out with an energetic jam that is played into Driving Song.
  • Schools begins Blight with 'We sat on the beach aplayin'!' 'Donde esta la pharmacia por favor? 2x'
  • After Blight runs it's course, Jimmy and Jojo take handoff solos for a long stretch.
  • North > Mexico Lyrics...
  • A really immense jam out of Pleas and it seems like they tease half the catalog during it! > Henry Parsons

BTD's Notes:
  • The first of three nights at the old roller rink, Fillmore Auditorium. As always, it's a chill vibe in Denver. The line getting in has formed early on a mighty cold day, so you can trust the long-stretched floor will be packed solid tight tonight.
  • After Mexico, it seems they want to find their acoustic bearings with a quick and somewhat restrained first set. Highlights include another St. Louis jam materpeice, the first acoustic 'Don't Wann Lose You,' and that so-called Bluegrass version of 'Imitation Leather Shoes'.
  • Some tremendous JB slide soloing happening during both 'Party At Your Mama's House' and 'Stop Breakin' Down Blues' in the second set. Jimmy plays the 'Cars' lick to kick off the jam out of 'Christmas Katie', which has several tempo changes, and builds into one of the heaviest jams of the night before slipping into the first bustout of the night-'Good Morning Little School Girl'.
  • Schools throws a few extra notes into each measure and livens up the jam before the last verse of Pickin' Up The Pieces'.
  • 'Nobody's Loss' is a perfect song unplugged, and it has largely become a rarity, this one being only the 16th of the Jimmy Herring era.
  • Heavy echo on JB during 'Climb To Safety'
  • The heavier of the two movements in the Up All Night jam is even more aggressive than the electric versions that spawned up during Fall Tour.
JBisms:
  • 'Check one two. Check one two. Alright, how y'all doin'?' before-From The Cradle
  • 'Oh when you see your world, oh anyone at all like a stranger' during-Wondering
  • 'You're out of tune? I'm out of tune myself' after-Wondering
  • 'Started thinkin. Thinkin', thinkin', thinkin', thinkin' 'bout this world we live in. Just how much, how much I had my hand in. Oh some thoughts, straight thoughts come in. Seems all we have we've taken' during-This Part Of Town
  • 'Dig it. We will be right back' after-Imitation Leather Shoes
  • 'Another along the line of might mighty Bloodkin songs' after-Who Do You Belong To?
  • 'I see you walkin' home with a shiny heady. I give your sister something, yeah. Lawd, she lose her mind' during-Stop Breakin' Down Blues
  • 'You touchin' me, I'm touchin' you, I'm just a little schoolboy. Good morning little schoolgirl. Good morning little schoolgirl. Good night, too' during-Good Morning Little School Girl
  • 'Time's replaced by a peaceful stream of thoughts. Remember' during-Space Wrangler
  • 'But all the ladies dance different with familiar grace' during-Space Wrangler
  • 'Wooptido' before-Climb To Safety
  • 'Alright. Thank y'all very very much' after-Climb To Safety
  • 'Alright. We've only just begun' before-Don't Be Denied
  • 'We sit on the steps and drool, and dream of being stars' during-Don't Be Denied
  • 'Jojo' before-Chunk Of Coal
  • 'Woop! See you tomorrow night ladies and gents. Thank you very much' after-Chunk Of Coal

Notes: SOLD OUT | Doors: 6:00pm / Showtime: 8:00pm MST (10:00pm EST) | A Food Drive Event | Pre-order Download/CD of the Show | Seating Capacity: 3,700 | The Fillmore Seating Chart

BTD's Notes:
  • Bringing things to a totally different level tonight. The Parsons opens with a fury, an absolutely rocking version, with Schools delivering a different take on the opening bass run.
  •  A more rocking than usual version of Shut Up And Drive, and an exceptional version of Aunt Avis.
  • Yet again, Jojo is on fire... ready for the Help Me Somebody throwdown to lighten the mood after that heavy Avis! They did a great job of jamming between the songs and making the crowd wonder what the song was (BWM or WDYBT? maybe)?
  • Saint Ex is now starting with Jimmy playing his beautiful verse section as a little solo, then the introduction, and the song begins!
  • The third ever Tail Dragger.
  • "Could You Be Loved" halftime house-music, which goes out to the massive Colorado contingent that made it down to Mexico and then had Panic come to them?
  • Two of the first three songs off the Ball Album to get things going in the second set: Fishing and Papa Johnny Road.
  •  Mercy has a Bird Song jam.
  • School and Jimmy are taking it to the house on Ride Me High.
  • Check for a 'Down On The Farm tease during ribs and Whiskey'
  • Todd and Sunny move up for the encore and the bucket and travel congas come out!
  • Little lovelight tease by Schools during Tall Boy before the rap, highly energetic Tall Boy > Could You Be Loved house music before setbreak.
  • Steam begins to collect after Mercy, the chirping of birds gives way and the darkness settles in. A jammed out Ride Me High, Dirving Song, a beauitufully rendered papa's Home. Damn! A lively and smoldering piano driven jam before Driving Song is finished off.
  • Schools throws in a magnificently subtle 'Down On The Farm' tease during a rowdy, knockabout version of 'Ribs And Whiskey'

JBisms:
  • 'Good Evening' before-Henry Parsons Died
  • I got a little feedback. [Laughter]. This is another song' before-Tickle The Truth
  • 'Washburn! Oh [Laughter]' before-Shut Up And Drive
  • 'Aww, wake up, wake up, wake up. Oh, baby' during-Shut Up And Drive
  • '[Jump up and drive]. That's one way to get there' after-Shut Up And Drive
  • '[Shiny guitar] Arrrr! [They can see themselves in it] Brad you got anything? Watch the pile. [Strum] Ha ha! [Shiny]' after-Let's Get The Show On The Road
  • 'Take it easy on me!' before-Tall Boy
  • 'Holy ghost. Got the holy ghost. Summon the holy ghost. Holy water. Oh, your mama, your pappy on the battle field. Brother's brothers. Sisters and boys, too. Swing low, charriot, said swing swing. Swing low chariot send me 'way from the battlefield. Summon up the holy ghost from the battle field. Oh, my world won't be the same. Gonna summon up the holy ghost from the battlefield. In the morning this whole world won't be the same' during-Tall Boy

[Wood Tour; Last 'Time Waits'- 10/15/10, 97 shows; 'Time Is Free' tease before 'Carmelita'; Old style 'Visiting Day'; Only 'Let's Roll'; JB on 6-string Banjo for 'Blackout Blues'; Only 'You Can't Always Get What You Want']

Notes: SOLD OUT | Doors: 6:00pm / Showtime: 8:00pm MST (10:00pm EST) | A Food Drive Event | Pre-order Download/CD of the Show | Seating Capacity: 3,700 | The Fillmore Seating Chart

BTD's Notes:
  • 49 minute first set /  1 hour 44 minute second set +encore
  •  Hope In A Hopeless World opener is followed by the rolling drum line of 'Porch Song'. Schools let's out a jovial howl and the crowd's all ready to live the moon time. Joel brings out the mandolin for JB and 'Ain't Life Grand' keeps the mile high city rockin'.
  • JB gives a shoutout to Mikey 'A little Mikey twofer there', and they reintroduce the Rolling Stones cover with soaring Mick Taylor Solo-'Time Waits For Me'. Following that one up with 'Time Waits' and 'Time Zones' makes for a 'time' song threefer, and leaves the song symbologists' heads spinning.
  • Surprise Valley builds up into a jam and then everything but the drums drop out and they usher the song back in, Dave building on the main structure of the song while Jojo fills in with a pump organ ad Jimmy leads... building up tension and releasing it as they return to the song.
  • The band comes up for air after 'Crazy', collecting themselves before the next combination of killer tunes... 'Contentment Blues' has been rearranged in a 4/4 time signature, and this snappy version rolls into the debut of a nameless, improvised blues vamp that just so happens to have a verse and chorus- let's just call it 'Let's Roll'.
  • After 'Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys', 'Airplane' gets a unique finish. A piano driven barroom jaunt fills the void of what would normally be a jarring 'Take Off' jam, and Dave Schools thumps out a solo, and a jam cut from the 'China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider' cloth materializes.
  • But Todd's downbeat and Sunny's talking drum signify the only 'Dream Song' of the year.

JBisms:
  • 'Hello, everybody. Let's have a little more fun' before-Hope In A Hopeless World
  • 'Open up my mind I see a land of sunny rocks and funny trees' during-Porch Song
  • 'A little Mikey twofer there' after-Ain't Life Grand

  • 'Be right back' after-Makes Sense To Me
  • 'Is everybody ready?!' before-Surprise Valley
  • 'Still life in perpetual motion. A tough little kid by your side. A short little man by your side' during-Crazy
  • 'Got a bucket of fried on the bench beside. 'Nough chicken for one man's greed. Life been gettin' a little slippery, I been slippin' from tree to breeze' during-Contentment Blues
  • 'Thank you kindly' after-Travelin' Light
  • 'I felt like I was sittin' back waitin' for Joel to feed me' before-Blackout Blues
