Smoke And Burn

Written by Michael HouserSandbox (bonus CD), 2006

Houser played it twenty-nine times, then shelved it — in 1997 he said the band had not found the heart of it yet, and that it might sit for years. It reappeared in 2006, on the bonus disc of his own posthumous record.

Well, that’s a song that I wrote. I guess we didn’t play it on our last tour. We’re not really comfortable with it right now. We haven’t really found the heart of it yet. It may sit for a couple of years before we ever do anything about it. We write songs all the time. Most of them get to your ears, but some of them don’t. ‘Burned Faceless’ could have used a little more work on our part before we brought it forth. I think you’ll see it reappear, I just don’t know where. I like it; I wrote it.
