Postcard

Their friend Bear left town and sent a postcard back to the King Avenue house, a skier catching air on the front of it. He still gets fifteen-cent royalty cheques.

When the band started we all lived in this little house in Athens, Georgia, called King Avenue, and we had a friend. His name was Tom Gunther. We commonly knew him as Bear. He left town... Some months later we got a postcard. It arrived at the band house. On the front side of it was a skier catching air way up in the mountains. On the back side was a post mark from Telluride, Colorado, and a very simple message on the postcard that said, ‘The air here is great. We're having an ass-kicking time. This town is nuts. My kind of place. I don't ever want to leave.’

...we had a buddy that wrote us a postcard and that turned into a song about 7 years ago. He gets little 15 cent royalty checks.
